Hockey at PSCC
Welcome to the Port Shepstone Country Club's Hockey Page
Port Shepstone Hockey Club which is the only remaining Hockey Club on the South Coast moved from the Borough Fields in Port Shepstone to Port Shepstone Country Club as an affiliated Section of the Club in 1996. The Club boasts a large number of Natal Country District and South African Country District Players
The Players participate in the Southern District League which is made up of Kokstad, Matatielle , Scottburgh and Port Shepstone. From this League Southern Natal A and B Teams for the Men and Ladies are selected. Port Shepstone being the strongest Club and generally the League Winners make up the majority of the Southerns Teams. These Teams then participate in the Natal Country District Tournament against Northern Natal , Midlands and Zululand .
At this Tournament Natal Country District Teams are selected which then participates in the South African Country District Tournament which is an Inter Provincial Districts Tournament. Here the SACD Teams are selected and these Teams then participate in the Inter Provincial A and B Tournaments. Apart from the Country District League the Ladies also play in the 1 st Division in the Durban League and pride themselves on the results they obtain against this high level of Hockey.
The annual SHEPTEMBER Tournament which originated as a biannual tournament back in 1964 is the highlight of the Hockey Year. Teams from all over RSA participate in this “not to miss” Social/Serious Tournament which has a theme each year and is an eye opener to the visitor. The 2009 Sheptember Tournament has unfortunately been cancelled due to the current economic climate.
A good hockey player plays where the ball is. A great hockey player plays where the ball is going to be.
